COMMENT: The Freedom Factor
PANAMA CITY, REPUBLIC OF PANAMA
Dear A-Letter Reader:
I am writing to you today from our favorite offshore tax haven, Panama. This week marks the 5th Offshore Opportunities Conference the Sovereign Society has held here in Panama, and it is our largest turn out ever -- over 300 attendees and speakers are gathered on the banks of the Panama Canal, that famous American-built "path between the seas."
There is a tragic irony that citizens of the USA, the so-called 'land of the free,' must go offshore to achieve the lower taxes and greater privacy and financial freedom we once took for granted at home.
No more!As you readers know only too well, especially those who are members of the Sovereign Society, the last two decades in the US (and many other nations), has seen a marked decline in financial and personal freedom. Under the guise of fighting fighting various government- declared 'wars' - on poverty, drugs and now, terrorism, everyone is treated to some degree as a suspected criminal. Those with substantial cash or accumulated wealth are forced to prove they are innocent and not money launderers. And the Big Brother state is laying plans to brand us all like so many cattle with biometric IDs, the better to be herded and corralled.
At odds with these-anti freedom trends is a new report entitled, "The American Dream 2004" commissioned by the National League of Cities. It shows that when US people were given a chance to name the two most important factors to them, 'living in freedom' was the most frequently picked thing that defined the 'American Dream' for them. And 45% saw government as more a hindrance than a help in achieving that dream. It's time the politicians met the people!
I wish that you could be here this week to hear our many experts speaking on topics such as offshore trusts, second citizenship, legal tax reduction and tax deferral. But I'll be here reporting to you, and in the meantime, check my 'PS" below for the very sort of information our attendees are here to learn.
