COMMENT: Dreamers and Doers.

Dear A-Letter Reader:
I got to thinking, (apart from the thinking I automatically do when I'm writing, which seems like all the time) - what must the outside world think of the Sovereign Society?

This question arose from a collection of quotes from satisfied Society members complimenting us on our services, investment advice, seminars and publications. Of course, after eight years as editor of The< A-Letter, I'm used to getting kind words and brickbats, all of which I relish, because they allow me better to understand what the outside world feels about us.

We have a definite view of ourselves and our mission, even though it undergoes constant revision to meet the times. Someone once said: "The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do." That's us.

Eight years ago a small group of friends and associates gathered to formalize the founding of an exclusive membership organization to promote personal freedom, maximum financial privacy, free market wealth accumulation and sound asset protection.

Thus was born the Sovereign Society, now over 10,000 members all over the globe. As a measure of the Society's influence, over 100,000 subscribers receive this A-Letter five times a week.

From the first, our emphasis has remained focused squarely on the Sovereign Individual -- on you. The Society always has looked "offshore" for the freedoms once enjoyed in the USA, in Canada, in the UK and other nations.

In a few weeks our Investment Director, Sean Brodrick, is off to Switzerland and Liechtenstein to learn more about the offshore asset protection world. A veteran investment guru with an enviable track < record and a pleasing writing flair, Sean is submerging himself in the eccentricities of the offshore world. As will 'Arnold,' he'll be back.

About the same time, I'm off to Singapore, Hong Kong and China where we're establishing new and profitable Asian banking, investment and professional contacts for our members. Dubai is also on the future travel agenda as the UAE becomes an offshore center.

Back home in Baltimore, Ireland and Florida, the staff keeps the machine purring and, hopefully, keeps the members happy. Our Executive Director, Erika Nolan, and our Marketing Director, Shannon Crouch, are both regular trans-Atlantic commuters.

But when "offshore" is your daily beat, it means the world. And that does keep us busy. Our Council of Experts members come from not just the United States, but the Isle of Man, Canada, Panama, Costa Rica, Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, New Zealand, Belgium, The Bahamas, South Africa, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Bermuda and France.

Eight years ago none of us could have guessed that an anti-terror war would create new dangers to freedom. At our founding in 1997 no one foresaw that liberty would be decreased in the name of false security and a surveillance society imposed. But those events only confirm the need for our continued work.

And at my age, all this activity keeps me busy, with no time to think about retirement or worse. As cartoonist Charles M. Schulz had one of his Peanuts say: "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia." And in Singapore.

We do hope your view of our Sovereign Society work is satisfactory. And we hope you will join us in this constant journey to preserve our freedoms.

That's the way that it looks from here.
BOB BAUMAN, Editor
