COMMENT: Commodities Bull Market
Dear A-Letter Reader:
Giving investment advice is not my usual role. Regular readers of my A-Letter "Comment" know that I leave that to the experts. But every now and then I notice an investment trend that can't be ignored.
That's what happened in a recent talk I had with my friend Eric Roseman, a member of the Sovereign Society Council of Experts and a leading investment advisor based in Canada. Eric has many years experience, especially in analyzing offshore investments and spotting global trends. He is also editor of Commodity Trend Alert (CTA), a service designed to produce profits from today's major world trends -- and Eric tells me one of the hottest trends today is investing in commodities.
This emerging trend is best illustrated recently in the "Commodity Trend Alert (CTA) Portfolio" Eric produces each week for his many readers.
For example, as US and most international indices wilted in November trading, Eric's CTA commodity resource-rich portfolio of stocks enjoyed their best month in 2003. CTA scored big profits this month in palladium, silver, gold, gas and uranium - all up in double digits. And that's just in four weeks of trading.
Number One in November's profit parade was North American Palladium (+30.4%), followed by International Uranium (+29%) and Pan-American Silver (+18%). Out of a total 23 open positions, ten securities posted mostly modest losses, while the entire book of positions gained over 4% in November while the S&P 500 Index was essentially unchanged. Eric's Top Three gainers in 2003 are Pan-American Silver (+61% since July 22nd), Jyske Bank Denmark (+61% since February 7th) and Newmont Mining (+58% since January 1st). Many other of his stocks picks are up over 30%, 40% and even 50% this year.
Why are Eric's readers doing so well while the major markets start to stumble once again? As he explained it to me, worldwide commodity prices are skyrocketing - in part because of the huge increase in consumption of raw materials by various China-based industries. There has never been any doubt that when China finally got it's industrial production moving, it would be bigger than anything seen in many years. 1.3 billion Chinese are bound to create major demand for products -- and that means massive need for world commodities.
The picks Eric writes about in CTA are all commodities based securities stocks of companies that produce, mine, process or distribute commodities: coal, gold, platinum, sugar, wheat, etc. And the Chinese can't get enough of these products. What does this mean? Commodity prices going through the roof and companies who sell these same commodities will make an enormous amount of money.
Again, I'm not an investment guru by any stretch of the imagination. But I know a trend toward investment wealth when I see it -- as I'm, sure you do too. That's why I felt compelled to pass along this good news to you, our A-Letter readers. Make the most of it.
That's the way that it looks from here.
