U.S.A.: Dangerous Tax and Laundering Initiatives Introduced
In a stunning policy reversal, the Bush administration has moved to counter accusations by congressional Democrats that it is "soft" on tax or money laundering issues. Attorney General John Ashcroft has announced that the administration will introduce stringent new anti-money laundering legislation. And Secretary of State Colin Powell has announced that the ratification of new Tax Information Exchange Agreements is a top foreign policy priority with low-tax nations throughout the world. Crossing the Threshold to War
By Jack Pugsley, Chairman, The Sovereign Society
Some say it was predictable. Others that it was unimaginable. And others that it was the warth of a vengeful God. All of us are struggling to make sense of an event that we all know will alter our lives. Click https://www.agora-inc.com/secure/FORM1.CFM?PUBCODE=SOVS&PCODE=LSVOCT&ALIAS=all for more.
Top Investments for 2001 and Beyond
By Eric Roseman
Despite the worst global bear market for stocks since 1977, numerous investment opportunities still exist in late 2001 and 2002. With global economies slumping from the United States to Japan, interest rates are heading lower. Easy money is usually a boon for financial assets. World central banks are now flooding the world with cheaper credit, expanding the money supply in an effort to avoid the first global recession since 1990-91. Low Tax Residency in the Isle of Man
By Nicholas Pullen
The Isle of Man is a self-governing dependant territory of the British Crown. A 227 square mile island situated between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, the island oversees its local internal administration, fiscal and social policies. It also boasts world's oldest parliament, the 1,000-year-old Tynwald. And it's encouraging new residents to move there. Much of the attractions comes from low income tax rates--currently 18%, to be reduced to 15% by 2005. Click https://www.agora-inc.com/secure/FORM1.CFM?PUBCODE=SOVS&PCODE=LSVOCT&ALIAS=all for more.
Switzerland: Is Your Money Still Safe?
By Robert Bauman
Switzerland is the world's most famous offshore haven. Once a bastion of privacy and even anonymity, there are now many exceptions to secrecy due to the very strict Swiss money laundering legislation. But the efficiency and professionalism of Swiss bankers is legendary, and it is highly unlikely that Switzerelandwill ever completely dismantle banking secrecy. Your Cell Phone is Spying on You--and What to Do About It
By Mark Nestmann
Effective Oct. 1, 2001, US cell phone manufacturers are required to equip all new cell phones with a "locator chip" that is capable of identifying its location. While the technology is allegedly being used only to identify persons calling for emergency assistance, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies are planning to use the technology to track the location of anyone using a cell phone, without a warrant. And direct marketing companies want to use the technology to bombard you with location-specific ads. These trends are already well advanced outside the United States.
